Primary School NY

Primary School 253 Q in New York is a clearly articulated expression of its functions. Its building systems respond to NY School Authority requirements for a teaching laboratory. The constraints imposed by a very tight plot and an even smaller budget, coupled with the decision to retain the building systems in plain view and to connect, both physically and visually , to the existing science building, resulted in a honest, articulate building that expresses a teaching institution building type in the best modernist tradition. The design approach was to develop a chain of lab modules and support spaces on both sides of a long corridor, running the entire length of the building.
